Sounds. That is right. Words. Rhyme and rhythm, too. Maybe some music, as well, all written by you. You say school can't be cool and, jeez, you don't want to play the fool. But to get up, stand up, and raise up your voice, might just, may just, be the kind of crazy that is nothing like "school." Some other kind of crazy to leave others in a daze as you find yourself, fulfill yourself, and set your little world ablaze. Sound crazy? I hope not. I am banking on... NOT. Because, the CRAZY I have in my mind is something our word world, our real world deparately needs... I am calling the unit(for now) Words, words, words "Bringing Revolution to this Institution" (Jon Jorgenson) or the spoken word students finding their voices in rhyme and rhythm I don't have many details yet, as the idea is still be-coming. But be it will, if YOU have the will and the words that just might, just may...., close your eyes, think about it, r-e-v-o-l-u-t-i-o-n-i-z-e!! Below you will find just a taste or two for now of what other middle and high schoolers already know is the coolest, most creative, most constructive way of learning words not only imag-in-it-ive-ly, but fero-cious-ly, and maybe even cou-Rage-ous-ly. Because if you are not using what your learning, then you're confusing learning with listening and behaving and forgetting about thinking and speaking and using the letters and the numbers and words without ever believing that thinking is the transforming of the you into the you you want to be. So now take a minute and watch the waves of words wander sometimes pointedly, other times poignantly, ofttimes recklessly, like a train rolling too fast, barreling, teetering this way and that, those words always flying about, their destinations like the train, never in doubt. -E.M.
